Decorative Frames for WonderDraft
You want new Wonderdraft frames! I got new Wonderdraft frames! So there’s three packs of frames here. 84 in total, including some that have color variations / background fill versus transparent.
Each pack is shown in the thumbnails on a different slide.
Some are pretty simple, some are pretty complex and some are very experimental and will require nudging around the size slider to make them look ‘right’ because at the default setting they won’t. Some of them will retint, and some are plain black and will not retint. Almost everything that’s included is shown in the slides.
The folders are given Wonderdraft architecture, so just drop any of them into the ‘assets’ folder and you should be good to go, they’re nested appropriately unlike some of my earlier packs which require you to set up the folder structure yourself.
Tons of possibilities for a wide range of map styles.
I do not recommend loading up all of the packs at the same time because it causes Wonderdraft to get pretty slow and I found it would sometimes crash if I did that. But I’ve tested all three of these groupings and it stayed stable and let me play around with them.
More Frames for Wonderdraft?
I’ve created a sequel to this pack: Ti’s Geometric Frames for Wonderdraft
More Cartographic Decor for Wonderdraft?
10 Colorable Compasses for Wonderdraft will pair nicely with this pack!
You might also like to add some cloud themes! Ti’s Fog and Cloud Symbols and Themes for Wonderdraft
Perhaps you would like to add some 146 More Roads for Wonderdraft (Updated 2022!)
Or help create a legend with All Greek to Me 1-9, A-Z and Greek Legend Markers
This full pack contains all 10 full colour striped frames and 8 boxes, as well as the same set but colourable. Also included are masks that can be used to create a properly scaled mask for the torn edge frames for use in post processing such as placing your new map created in Wonderdraft onto a wood table or some other background.
To Install
1. Mythkeeper – use mythkeeper to install. It will install two separate asset packs, one for the full colour version of the frames and boxes, and one that’s colourable.
2. Manually – unzip the download and then place the two folders into your assets folder. To get to your assets folder simply launch Wonderdraft then go to Menu –> Open User Folder.
Using the Masks for Post Work
- If you choose striped-frame-08 or striped-frame-09 (the two frames with a “ripped edge”) then it will have a white background around the torn edge because frames do not allow for transparency – they will just show the rest of your map beneath. To get around this I have created a mask frame and a mask box.
- It is best to start another map since there are elements that might sit above the mask box. Make sure it’s the same dimensions as your exported map. Then, select the map-mask as your frame and make sure it’s the same scale as the frame on your map. Then, go to Labels and select the Box Tool. Choose inside-mask from the list and place it somewhere just behind the frame and stretch it out to cover the whole map. Finally, Export it as your mask for post processing. See the last three gallery images for visual examples of this process.

Don’t forget that I also sell a Commercial version if you want to create maps to sell!
You can find the Commercial License and Pack Here.
This free sample pack contains two full colour frames and two full colour boxes at two different sizes that can be used in your personal maps.
If you would like the full pack which contains 10 frames and 8 boxes (in two different sizes), then I would recommend looking at either:
1. Striped Frames and Boxes – Full Pack (Personal) – this provides you a personal license to use my full pack in any maps you make.
2. Striped Frames and Boxes – Full Pack (Commercial) – this provides you a commercial license to use my full pack in any maps you make.
This pack contains a completely rebuilt set of map frames and boxes of my popular scalloped map border. There are now a whopping 10 frame styles and 12 box styles for use in your Wonderdraft maps.
What do you get in this Wonderdraft Asset Pack?
- A commercial license that allows you to use these assets however you want in Wonderdraft or in any other program for your creative works (if you so choose).
- 10 variations of the scalloped map border. These include versions with a border, without a border, worn, and in grayscale so you can tint it with a colour in the frame options.
- 12 variations of the scalloped box. These include versions with a border, without a border, work and in grayscale so you can tint it with a colour in the box options.
Installation
As always, simply unzip the file and copy the folder into the assets folder.
References
The scallop frame has been sampled from a photograph by Douglas Fernandes which is under a CC BY 2.0 license, and an approved cultural work. The original map is the Historic map of COLOMBIA: Terra Firma et Novum Regnum Granatense et Popayan (1640) and was created by the Dutch cartographer, Blaeu (though, I am unsure if it’s Willem Blaeu or his son Joan Blaeu. Both were cartographers).
Here i present 4 new map borders for use with wonderdraft. These were derived from public domain content (speciifcally the British Musuem). I may add more to this as i find more source material.
Castle Wall Map Frames
This is a set of 6 variations of castle wall map frames. There are two simplified ones and four shaded ones with slight variations.
If you like the assets I create then consider buying me a coffee here.
There are two versions of the same frame included in this pack.
To install:
Unzip and drag-and-drop the folder in the assets folder where Wonderdraft custom assets go; please note that Windows will automatically create a folder with the same name as the zipped file. This is an extra folder and if this happens you must move the folder within that (named, ‘jchunick-Frames-Pack-3-beta’) into the assets folder of Wonderdraft to maintain the proper folder structure.

If you would like to learn more about the antique map from which this border was recreated for use in Wonderdraft or would like to download the map then you can find it here:

There are two frames included in this pack. They are fancier frames.
There are three versions of the scalloped frame.
In Wonderdraft you can use the Tint color option to tint the map frames.
As always, simply unzip the file and copy the folder to the assets folder.

Ornate Map Frame for Wonderdraft
There are two versions of the same ornate map frame for Wonderdraft in the zippped file. The frame is set to use the tint colour.
The design was inspired from a pesh-kabz dagger from India dating to the 19th Century. It featured two-coloured gold inlays depicting floral motifs on dark ground which is where the pattern came from.
For personal use only.
The file has been updated to include two more variations so if you’ve downloaded the older version make sure to update with version 2.0!
To install, simply unzip and drop the jchunick folder into the assets folder. If you have any other assets from me then it will simply add the new folders and files into the jchunick folder.
If you are not sure where to install assets for Wonderdraft it then see here: https://www.cartographyassets.com/threads/installing-assets-for-wonderdraft.21/
A few more frames in celtic style, handdrawn to give a personal touch, with three versions each.
One is standard with blach outline, one with a black framing backdrop and one borderless.
