Helios Project Icarus Vale Map Set for Dungeondraft

The Helios Scanning Project is capable of mapping distant lands and alien worlds. Unsurprisingly, this project file, codename Icarus Vale, is surveilling a region of clandestine activity scoring high on provoking a Doomsday outcome. We just picked up a big blast of radiation from the lake complex being monitored, so it’s time to gather the hotshots, strap them in, and drop them nice and quiet in that river valley so they can reach the ridge by sunrise and get a proper look-see.

The Helios Project Icarus Vale Map Set for Dungeondraft includes:

  • 5 high-resolution (2K) regional maps in 5 color variants (provided as patterns) – perfect for setting a series of encounters or even an entire module
  • 24 matching map marker symbol objects – 4 shapes and 5 color variants, plus colorable versions (scanner blue, green, yellow, spectrum, and also realistic ground)
  • Roll20 compatible image files – all the maps (JPG, 32×32 grid cells), and markers.

This map set is suitable for all types of modern and futuristic game settings; used as the settings for a series of encounters, an entire module, or as added special flair to a Dungeondraft encounter map.  The scanner maps are decorated with neon grids and contours.  The assets are provided in Dungeondraft pack file format and Roll20 image format for maximum compatibility, creativity, and use.  Note: the maps/patterns are not seamless textures.

This pack is a natural spinoff of my Artsy Topo Map Kit.  More realistic than artistic, the assets blend with terrain found in my other packs.  Terraced terrain makes for unique and intriguing landscaping with built-in depth.

The Terraced Terrain Pack for Dungeondraft includes 140 assets, and a high-resolution encounter map:

  • 35 2K seamless terrain textures – 5 versions in 7 variants (dark grey, grey, rust brown, olive green, feywild, vegetated green, and white brown); 2K terrain covers 8 grid cells before repeating.
  • 35 4K seamless terrain textures – versions and variants are the same as 2K textures; 4K terrain covers 16 grid cells before repeating!
  • All terrain are also provided as patterns (patterns are useful for creating precise edges between different types of terrain)

Artsy Topo Map Kit

A bit of a deviation from my typical art style, this pack was inspired by seeing a hand-drawn map and wondering if I could emulate it with some crafty use of Quadspinner’s Gaea and post-processing.

The Artsy Topo (topographic) Map Kit includes assets for Dungeondraft and Wonderdraft, and a high-resolution region map.

The Dungeondraft assets include:

  •  5 4K seamless terrain maps in 4 variants (desert, snow, night, hell) – 4K size means that the terrain covers 16 grid squares before repeating
  •  5 4K terrain shadow objects (standard hillshade, azimuth 315, angle 45)
  •  12 4K flat terrain in 4 variants, used to erase (flatten) areas of the map

The Dungeondraft terrain can be blended together (even blending with different variants or third party assets) to produce very unique terrain.  Smooth blending is recommended. Blends best with assets like the core Dungeondraft art style.

The Wonderdraft assets includes:

  •  5 2K seamless terrain maps in snow variants (these can be used as is or colored)
  •  5 2K terrain shadow images to use as overlays
  •  5 heightmaps matching the terrain

The Wonderdraft assets are designed to make maps 2048×2048 pixels dimension maps, however the terrain is seamless and larger maps are possible; the shadow overlays are not compatible with larger area maps.

The “Badlands Village” region map is also included in this pack, a high-resolution version of the cover art; 20×20, 256ppi, webp; featuring Artsy terrain as well as buildings and flora created by Dungeonquill. 

Note re. Shadows: the shadow assets are meant to be used in unedited terrain, or post-processing your map in a third-party image editor (e.g., Photoshop, Clip Studio Paint, GIMP), where you can overlay and edit the shadows.

Textures
Topo Map Kit 1 for Wonderdraft

I’ve been considering this style of pack for a long time and after some serious experimentation I think I’ve come up with a really innovative and useful map kit.  Like the assets in my Terrain series, the raw materials in this kit were developed using Quadspinner’s Gaea software and then optimized for use in Wonderdraft (and technically also other art software, e.g., Photoshop, Clip Studio Paint, GIMP).

The Topo (topographic) Map Kit 1 for Wonderdraft includes:

  • 5 unique sets of maps at 2K (2048px) resolution, well-suited to Wonderdraft export upscaling to 4096px
  • Each map set includes:
    • 1 ground image – featuring rock outcrops and other landform textures, ready for coloring and grunge texturing.
    • 2 water images – 1 with subtle bathymetric color depth and 1 with caustics enhancement
    • 1 shadows image – standard hillshade shadows (azimuth 315, angle 45); apply as Wonderdraft overlay to make the landscape really pop
    • 1 heightmap – matching the ground and water; import it into Wonderdraft to set your own water level and tune; make lakes, river courses, or archipelagos
  • How to use? In Wonderdraft, you select your ground and water as per usual, import a matching height map, adjust the water level and ground cover, apply other assets (e.g., trees, grunge, buildings, and even other topographic landforms), color as needed, overlay shadows, and then export your amazing final map!  
  • The assets are designed to make 2048×2048 pixel dimension maps.  While the ground and water are not “certified seamless”, they’re “mostly seamless” so you could risk experimenting with larger maps (the heightmap and shadows only work for 2048px size maps)
  • Easily mix and match with other ground or water assets, including core Wonderdraft.  Tip: mixing and matching the ground and water from different map sets in this kit can produce very dramatic effects.
  • A Wonderdraft theme is included to help set you up with some optimal ground and water configurations.
